Loss changes more than one thing
A loss can affect identity, routines, relationships, finances, faith, and the future you pictured. Some parts may hurt immediately. Others may become clear only after the practical demands have quieted.
Numbness can be part of grief
Not feeling what you expected does not mean the loss mattered less. You may move between tears, distraction, anger, relief, fatigue, and long stretches of feeling very little.
Rather than measuring grief against someone else’s timeline, it may be gentler to ask what this day requires.
Support does not require fixing
Sometimes support is simply a place where the whole story can be present without being rushed toward a lesson or silver lining. Counselling can help you carry the loss while finding ways to participate in life as it is now.
