Relief and grief can exist together

A relationship can be harmful and still contain attachment, routines, hopes, and meaningful memories. Leaving may bring safety or relief while also bringing grief. Those feelings do not cancel each other out.

You may also be grieving the future you expected, the version of the relationship you kept hoping for, or the energy it took to survive it.

Self-doubt can linger after the relationship ends

If your perspective was regularly questioned or dismissed, trusting your own judgment may take time. It can help to notice what you know today, what your body is telling you, and which people help you feel clearer rather than smaller.

There is no need to force certainty all at once. Rebuilding self-trust often happens through many ordinary choices.

Support can be practical and emotional

Counselling can offer a private place to sort through mixed feelings, practise boundaries, and reconnect with your values. Legal, safety, housing, and community supports may also be important. You deserve a plan that fits the reality of your situation.
